Review:
I went and saw this after reading many negative comments, and now, after seeing what I can not figure out all the negative attention. Granted, I may be a little biased having grown up surfing in northern CA, wading in many of these places, and looking for the big wave chargers like Jay, but based on entertainment value alone I thought it was great. The acting was solid, the footage was amazing, and the story never dragged or lost my attention. The film portrayed a fairly realistic vibe Santa Cruz as a high school kid and elements not often addressed surf. I thought it was nice that they were able to bring out the true pioneers Mavs and shapers.The only place down, make sure it felt a little karate kidish at times and there were some events that would be incredibly rare that all seemed to happen in time moments.Perhaps this movie will not appeal much to many who do not have the passion for the sport and enjoy the great company paddling in big waves - but I found it very entertaining. History can not be 100% accurate, but the point is to honor and tell the story of a good guy and extremely driven all the way around.
